Huge congrats to Renae, our Athlete of the Month in August! Renae is one of our amazing Master athletes at Wangara who always shows such determination in training to constantly improve her CrossFit skills and be the best version of herself. Renae has dominated the podiums at all the local competitions she has done recently in the Masters category. Currently Renae is in Queensland to compete this weekend for Western Australia, to bring back the Masters State of Origin title. We know Renae will be an amazing part of the WA team and do herself and WA proud, and leave nothing in the tank. Renae is one of our strongest and fittest ladies at Wangara keeping up with our younger crew. We look forward to watching this inspiring athlete achieve many of her future goals in the coming year. Keep up the awesome training Renae, and we are grateful to have you as such a big part of our community.
Lets get to know more about this inspiring athlete, who is living proof 'age is just a number'.
- Name: Renae Engebretsen
- Age: 46
- Occupation: Senior Cost Analyst at Rio Tinto
- How long have you been at CrossFit Access: for about 16 months
- What do you enjoy outside of CrossFit: Chilling with my fur child (Milly), camping, hiking, soaking up the sun down the beach, chilling with friends, eating and drinking wine.
- Favourite Move: Love my deadlifts, squats and cleans
- Least Favourite Move: Overhead movements are not my friend
- Favourite WOD: Would have to be a WOD with Thrusters and I love a good partner WOD.
- What is your biggest achievement so far: Achieving a 45kg Squat Snatch and making the WA State Team for Master League.
- What are your future goals: Bar Muscle Ups, Butterfly Pull ups and Handstand Walks
- Tell us something that we don’t know about you: I absolutely hate cockroaches
- Who’s your Box Buddy: Erin and Sam
- Why did you start CrossFit: CrossFit found me! I have always been an activate person and was doing boxing fitness at a particular gym that then introduced CrossFit, have never looked back. I’m not a person to be stuck in a gym working out on stationary equipment…..boring to say the least. CrossFit provides a variety movements that challenge me both physically and mentally. Nothing better than lifting some heavy weights, hitting new PB’s and smashing out a good WOD. Personally, at the age of 46 nearing 47, my body is the best shape it’s ever been thanks to CrossFit.
- What do you love about CrossFit Access: I absolutely love the atmosphere at CrossFit Access. The people and coaches are what make this place. Whether it be smashing out WODS, competing at comps and or socialising at Access functions, the ongoing support from everyone makes this my happy place.
- Any advice for anyone just starting their CrossFit Journey: Don’t give up!! CrossFit works for any age, sex, size or shape- the hardest part is starting, you will be amazed at what you can achieve.
